Hackers Send 'Hate-Filled' Flyer To UMass Printers And Fax Machines
BOSTON (CBS) – UMass Amherst officials say an anti-Semitic flyer was sent to printers and fax machines around campus by a group of hackers.
Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy described the flyer as "hate-filled, racist and anti-Semitic."
The flyer was distributed to networked printers and fax machines at multiple locations. The document included the web address of an organization that has been identified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Subbaswamy said.
"As a campus community, we condemn this cowardly and hateful act," Subbaswamy said. "This despicable incident reminds us that we must not be complacent as we continue to strive for a society that embraces diversity, inclusion and equity – a society where everyone feels safe and welcome."
The UMass Police Department is investigating the incident along with campus IT workers.
