Belmont Man Identified As Cambridge Shooting Victim

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- Cambridge Police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a 27-year-old Belmont man as he walked down a sidewalk just steps away from Mount Auburn hospital Tuesday night.

"I came here to see where my best friend died," said Kevin Morrison who stopped outside the hospital looking for answers. "He was just a loving, giving individual who would never say no to anybody no matter how big the problem was," said Morrison.

Cambridge Police returned to the scene Wednesday looking for evidence in the area. The shooting around 10 p.m. startled nearby residents who heard six to seven loud shots. "It was loud and we were in bed and it woke us up. It went on for sometime," said Cambridge resident Jocelyn Giunta.

A witness tells WBZ-TV the body of Armando Hernandez was found lying in the street while a second victim was in front of a nearby home yelling for help. Police say the unidentified victim was shot in the leg.

"We used to go to the river and hang out in the summertime. I'm sure if he was out here that's what he was doing, just hanging out," said Morrison.

He believes someone was tracking Hernandez' whereabouts saying trouble had followed him in the past, but he had turned things around with three children. Police say at the time of the shooting a car was found burning at nearby Cambridge Cemetery but they are unsure if it is connected.

The outbreak of violence concerning to residents. "It's about safety. Where's the third party, the one that did the shooting," said a resident identified only as Rose.
