Saugus Man Facing Charges After Cash, Marijuana Found In Stolen Car

WENHAM (CBS) -- A Saugus man is facing charges after police say he crashed a stolen car and ran from the scene.

Police say 22-year-old Daniel Ballentine was speeding down Arbor Street Saturday night when he crashed into a tree on the front lawn of Wenham Town Hall. According to police, firefighters nearby saw Ballentine and a female passenger get out of the car and run away.

Police found the female passenger nearby. Police said they later found Ballentine hiding in a sand bunker at the Wenham Country Club golf course.

Police found more than $20,000 in cash, several cell phones, and some marijuana in the car.

Ballentine faces multiple charges including Speeding and Operating to Endanger, police said.
