Was Robert Kraft's Letter To Roger Goodell A PR Move?
BOSTON (CBS) -- Patriots owner Robert Kraft has little recourse in attempting to get back the first-round pick that the Patriots lost as part of their punishment for DeflateGate, other than to simply ask commissioner Roger Goodell to give it back. Mr. Kraft told reporters at the NFL Owners Meetings in Boca Raton that he did just that.
Marc Bertrand and WBZ-TV's Dan Roche, filling in for Scott Zolak, played back an audio clip of Mr. Kraft explaining the actions taken by the Patriots to make one last effort to regain the lost draft picks. He said the team sent a letter to Commissioner Goodell about a month ago.
Bertrand believes that, while Mr. Kraft obviously wants the pick back, that the letter was largely sent as an effort to appease disappointed fans who want the team doing everything it can to get the picks back.
"It doesn't feel like he did this with the idea that it could actually go anywhere," said Bertrand. "If you do want to go down that path [of getting the picks back], you could fight more than they have. You could do more than write a letter. You could be out there on your soapbox for the past six months."
