Matt Light Defends 'Buddy' Adam LaRoche, Talks DeflateGate On Felger & Mazz

BOSTON (CBS) -- Former Patriots left tackle Matt Light called Felger & Mazz on Monday, a day proving timely in New England as Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealed that he sent a letter asking NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to return the draft picks taken away from the team as punishment for DeflateGate. The topic came up and it resulted in another fiery back-and-forth between Tom Brady's former blind side protector and the show.

The real surprise of Light's impromptu call, however, was that he called mainly because he heard "some banter" (understatement of the century) about a "buddy" of his, former White Sox first baseman Adam LaRoche. Light said he knows LaRoche personally and has an "idea of what he's going through," and wanted to defend the first baseman's decision. The LaRoche talk begins around the nine-minute mark.

The crux of Light's argument is not concerned with the professional and moral dilemmas presented by an arrangement such as LaRoche's with his son. Rather, Light argues that the White Sox had a contractual agreement with LaRoche, concerning the presence of his son Drake, that they blatantly broke when they asked LaRoche not to have Drake in the clubhouse as often as he had been. It had been an arrangement LaRoche and his son had for much of his career before he even joined the White Sox.

"You're telling me that it's OK to have an understanding, to go into a situation and have an understanding on how things are going to go, and then for one side to completely do a 180 and that's OK?" Light said. "Is that what we're trying to say?"

Of course, Felger & Mazz weren't having it. Listen below for the full discussion.
