Keller @ Large: Stan Rosenberg Talks Budget, Charter Schools

BOSTON (CBS) -- Senate President Stan Rosenberg sat down with WBZ political analyst Jon Keller this week, and Rosenberg addressed accusations from State Senator Dan Wolf that Senate Democrats weren't active enough on the issues.

"He's talking about Democrats, going back for quite a while now, and he feels passionately that the Democratic party needs to be more aggressive," said Rosenberg of Wolf's comments. "When I was executive director of the Democratic State Committee, I initiated with Chet Atkins the process of doing an action agenda. We need to get that in place both in the government and outside the government, in the party."

Rosenberg also responded to Wolf's comments about Gov. Baker's budget.

"The governor basically describes the budget situation as overspending," said Rosenberg. "I think it's not overspending, because if it was overspending, he could do the things in the budget that he wants to do, including increasing education by at least the same amount as the increase of revenue in the commonwealth, and he can't do it within that budget. Therefore it is not a spending problem alone, it is a revenue problem also."

Rosenberg said he's "totally for" a proposal that calls for taxing incomes over $1 million, with the funds going toward public education and infrastructure.

"Because we need a predictable, reliable infusion of resources for the two things that the business community says over and over again we need to maintain our economy," said Rosenberg. "And that's transportation-infrastructure and education.

Keller and Rosenberg also talked about a potential ballot question about charter schools in Massachusetts.
