More Movie Theaters Banning Kids From R-Rated Films, Report Says

LOS ANGELES (CBS) – Should parents be allowed to bring their young children into R-rated movies?

More and more movie theaters are saying no, according to a new report.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that most theater owners nationwide are banning kids under 6 years old from seeing R-rated films, even if they're accompanied by a parent.

Large movie theater companies like AMC Entertainment and Cinemark have a "No 6 After 6" rule for those under 6 years old, according to The Reporter. But Regal Entertainment, the biggest theater chain in America, won't allow young children into R-rated movies at any time.

"At Regal, it's our job to provide the best moviegoing experience for our patrons, and we want to make sure there are minimal interruptions during R-rated movies," Regal CEO Amy Miles told The Reporter. "We best achieve this through controlling the number of children in these films."

The MPAA, which rates films, hasn't taken an official position on parents bringing their kids to R-rated movies.

The Reporter notes that some theaters cater specifically to parents with small children by offering "baby days," and there seems to be very little pushback to keeping kids out of R-rated movies.
