Daily Talker: No School For St. Patrick's Day?

Happy St. Patrick's Day! We have to wait until Sunday to celebrate with the annual parade through South Boston. But in New York, they hold the St. Patrick's Day parade on St. Patrick's Day. That means students, teachers and workers have to play hooky if they want to go. One lawmaker wants to change that. New York State Senator Tony Avella has introduced a bill to make St. Patrick's Day a school holiday. He told WCBS, "Given the history of the Irish community in New York City, I think it's a worthy thing to do and I think they are entitled to have the day off." Mayor Bill de Blasio has defended the decision to keep St. Patrick's Day off the school holiday list. He said the newer school holidays are primarily religious. What do you think? Should St. Patrick's Day be a school holiday?
