Report: Patriots Agree To Terms With Free-Agent RB Donald Brown

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots added another veteran Wednesday, agreeing to terms on a deal with free-agent running back Donald Brown, according to Fox Sports 1's Peter Schrager.

Just one hour prior to reporting the signing, Schrager tweeted that the Patriots are far from done in free agency and will "hit the bargain bin and sniff around for veterans." Brown, along with defensive end Chris Long, appears to be the first domino to fall in that regard.

Brown, who turns 29 on April 11, was drafted in the first round by the Indianapolis Colts with the 27th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft (not a great draft for the Patriots, either), but has failed to live up to his draft position thus far. He had his best season in 2013 with the Colts when he averaged 5.3 yards per carry and added a career-high 29 receptions for 751 total yards and 8 total touchdowns. He struggled to retain a spot on the roster with the San Diego Chargers in the past two seasons.
