Report: Patriots Trade Chandler Jones To Cardinals

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- In what would certainly qualify as a "blockbuster" in NFL terms, the New England Patriots have traded defensive end Chandler Jones to the Arizona Cardinals for a 2016 second-round draft pick and offensive guard Jonathan Cooper, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Dianna Marie Russini.

The Cardinals had the 61st pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, giving the Patriots back-to-back picks in the second round at 60 and 61.

Jones was due $7.79 million as part of a team option for 2016. Cooper was the seventh overall pick in the 2013 draft out of North Carolina, but had underachieved in Arizona. He joins the Patriots entering the final year of his rookie deal and has a chance to redeem himself under returning offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia.

Jones tweeted shortly after the trade was announced, and seems to have taken the news pretty well - and/or knew it was coming for a long time.

This post is being updated as new details arrive.
