Perry: Foster, Boldin Perhaps Still In Play, But Pats Are Doing What's Been Expected

BOSTON (CBS) --- Phil Perry of CSNNE joined The Adam Jones show on Monday night to discuss the Patriots' offseason strategy. They took a look back at everything the team has done (or not done) so far, and made some predictions about what might happen next.

While Perry could see the team kick the tires on a bigger name veteran such as Anquan Boldin or Arian Foster later in the offseason, he doesn't expect the Patriots to make a big splash soon.

"I think it's been slow, but it's been what we've expected in many ways," said Perry.

Still, Perry believes the addition of former Buffalo Bill Chris Hogan could help solidify the receiving corps.

"They released Brandon LaFell and all of a sudden the receiver need became a real important one," said Perry. "I think they kind of addressed that with Chris Hogan. I don't know if they're necessarily done. I do think Hogan could give you close to what Brandon LaFell gave you."

As far as the big name free agents go, Perry thinks that the team has been smart to stay away from huge price tags.

"Fans certainly get a little bit uneasy when they start to see big names fly off the board and their team doesn't necessarily nab any of them, but this is what the Patriots like to do. They like to gauge the market," said Perry. "The market's been a little bit crazy because the demand has been high and the supply of legitimate good players has been low so the prices have been all of out whack."

"I think this is just what you're gonna have to accept if you're a Patriots fan. It's gonna be a slow free agency period, maybe look towards the draft and maybe that get's you a little more fired up, although you don't have a first-round pick either."

Lastly, Perry gave his input on the never-ending DeflateGate saga. Despite the recent updates to "The Wells Report in Context," Perry believes that fans finally may have turned the page a bit on ball inflation debates.

"I didn't really hear a lot about it from Patriots fans," noted Perry. "It feels to me like the fire has waned a bit and the outrage has waned a bit."
