Maynard Man Arrested For 5th OUI

MAYNARD (CBS) -- Police arrested a Maynard man over the weekend for his fifth charge of operating under the influence of alcohol.

Joseph P. Lynsky, 74, was charged with OUI liquor (fifth offense), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and operating with a defective tire.

Around 10:50 a.m. Saturday, a Maynard Police officer was alerted to a car driving on its rim on Main Street in Maynard by several pedestrians. When the officer saw the car taking a right turn onto River Street, he noticed it was travelling with its right front tire almost completely missing.

The officer saw Lynsky exit the driver's side door. When he approached Lynsky, the officer found he smelled of alcohol and was very unsteady on his feet. Lynsky was placed under arrest after the officer investigated.

"The actions of this individual were extremely reckless as he put his own life and the lives of all other motorists and pedestrians in danger," Maynard Police Chief Mark Dubois said. "Thanks to the swift action of residents and the quick response by police, this man was taken into custody without incident."

Lynsky was released on bail later Saturday, and was arraigned in Concord District Court Monday morning.
