Dump Truck Tires Hit 2 Cars On I-95 In Waltham; 1 Driver Hurt

WALTHAM (CBS) -- A pair of loose dump truck tires hit two cars, injuring one driver on Interstate 95 in Waltham late Saturday morning.

State Police received a call about a multi-car crash on I-95 North near exit 26 shortly after 11 a.m. Waltham Police and firefighters helped at the scene.

A 1999 Ford Super Duty dual-rear wheel truck was travelling south on I-95 just before the exit, when the tires suddenly dislodged and hit the cars, police say.

One tire struck a 2008 Toyota Prius, driven by a 60-year-old man, travelling south. Neither he or his passenger were hurt, police said.

Investigators say the second tire bounded over the median and hit a 2013 Mazda 3 heading north on I-95, injuring the 27-year-old Boston driver. She was rushed to Lahey Clinic after suffering serious injuries.

Her vehicle sustained significant damage to the roof and windshield. The victim hasn't been identified by police.

Two lanes on the northbound side of I-95 were shout down for about a half hour before reopening.

The truck driver, 48-year-old Valdir Dossantos of Lowell has been charged with unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

Dossantos was released on bail, and he is slated to appear in Waltham District Court on Monday.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by police.
