CBS Films, a sister company of WBZ, had asked campus officials to film scenes for the upcoming move "Patriots Day," which is about the events surrounding the Boston Marathon bombings. Mark Wahlberg will be among the stars in the Hollywood movie.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was a student at UMass Dartmouth at the time he and his brother set off two bombs at the Boston Marathon finish line in April 2013.

On Saturday, acting Chancellor Gerry Kavanaugh released a statement about the school's decision to decline the request.

After discussing the situation with students, staff, faculty, and other university stakeholders, we have decided to decline the request of CBS Films to use UMass Dartmouth as a site for filming Patriots Day. We have concluded that the production activities would be too disruptive to our campus community. We are hopeful that the movie does justice to the many courageous victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy and their families, as well as the public safety officers who demonstrated such selfless dedication to their duty.

Filmmakers had also asked Watertown officials to allow them to recreate the police shootout on Laurel Street. After discussing the proposal, Watertown officials declined.

Boston Casting, Inc., an Allston-based company, is holding an open casting call on March 13 for the movie.

The company is looking for general extras, police officers, SWAT Team members, firefighters, doctors, nurses, paramedics and marathon runners for the movie.
