19 Seeking Clemency Under New Mass. Guidelines Filed By Gov. Baker

BOSTON (AP) — At least 19 people have filed or refiled petitions for pardons or commutations since Jan. 1 after Republican Gov. Charlie Baker filed new clemency guidelines late last year.

Ten of the 19 are seeking pardons and nine are seeking commutations.

Baker as governor has the ultimate authority to grant clemency.

Those seeking pardons or commutations can withdraw, resubmit, amend or leave unchanged submitted requests and have the board evaluate them using the new guidelines.

Actor Mark Wahlberg announced in 2014 he was seeking a pardon for violent assaults he committed as a teenager in Boston.

The board that makes recommendations on pardons and commutations to Baker can't comment on whether Wahlberg has refiled his petition.
