Multiple People Injured, Teen Driver Charged With OUI After Bourne Crash

BOURNE (CBS) – A teenage driver will be charged with drunk driving and four underage passengers will be charged with possession of alcohol following a serious head-on crash in Bourne.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Friday, two cars were involved in a crash on Scenic Highway with several people seriously injured.

Initial investigation shows that an 18-year-old driving a Toyota Camry was speeding when he lost control, hitting a Toyota Corolla driven by a 34-year-old man from Marshfield.

Police say there were four male passengers, all under 21 years old, inside the Camry. One of them ran from the crash before officers arrived.

The passenger who ran was found in a nearby housing development. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The four other people who were in the Camry were hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Corolla, who was the only person in the car, was also hospitalized.

Bourne Police say speed, alcohol and weather were a factor in the crash.

All five people who were in the Camry will be charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol and possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

The 18-year-old driver will also be charged with operating under the influence, negligent operation, minor transporting alcohol, failure to stay within marked lanes and speeding.
