Carrie Underwood Surprises Military Family In Boston

BOSTON (CBS) - A Cape Cod military family met country star Carrie Underwood before she performed at the TD Garden Tuesday night.

It was a special treat for the Van Huysens, who haven't always had it easy.

"We've lived in a bunch of states and you have to adapt to situations and meet new people," said Casey Van Huysen.

But Tuesday night, the Coast Guard family got the star treatment, including an invite to a special Carrie Underwood concert in November in New York for military families only.

"This opportunity is overwhelming I'm beaming with excitement I'm nervous, I'm excited," Casey said.

Casey can barely contain her excitement and the kids are pretty much speechless. For Underwood, it's the reason she does this.

"I was excited to get involved and I mean it's an easy thing to do, to meet incredible people and put on a show and an extra show, I do what I can to say thank you," Carrie Underwood said.

But what the family didn't know was they are also getting a free vacation thanks to Carnival Cruise Line and Operation Homefront.

"Now we can have a memory together," says Chief Warrant Officer Aaron Van Huysen. "This is awesome. Best experience of our lives, especially theirs."

A huge gift, this family can barely believe and never repay.

"All I can say is thank you but I don't feel that's enough," Casey says.
