Watertown Shootout May Be Re-Created In Neighborhood For Boston Marathon Bombings Movie

WATERTOWN (CBS) – A film production company is planning a new movie about the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings and the shootout that followed in Watertown on April 19, 2013.

They want to re-create the shootout at the intersection where it happened - Dexter Avenue and Laurel Street.

According to Watertown News, CBS Films contacted some residents there earlier this month with a flyer "seeking approval from the neighborhood to proceed with our filming plans."

The movie, "Patriots Day," will star Dorchester-native Mark Wahlberg.  Former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, now a WBZ-TV security analyst, will be the central character in the film.

Preparation in Watertown would begin April 25 and filming would begin May 2.

The production company wants to film at night, complete with gunshot sounds.

According to a source, CBS Films originally offered to film the scene somewhere else, but settled on this spot, at the request of the Watertown community.

Mike lives at the corner of Dexter Avenue and Laurel Street and he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope he's okay with the movie.

"I don't mind. I actually watched the whole thing, but I don't mind, it doesn't bother me. I'd like to see it be done in the neighborhood it happened in instead of somewhere else," he said.

Andy lives at the end of Laurel Street. He says he and his family don't want to see another shootout there, even if it's not real.

"I will not be here when gunshots are off because I did have to rescue my two kids from their bedroom when gunshots were going off."

Another man who lives in the neighborhood told Cope, he doesn't want the movie shot there either. "Just forget about it," he said.

However, Jeanne, who lives at the top of Laurel Street, wouldn't mind a movie about the shootout being done right outside her door.

"I didn't look out the window last time and I'd rather have them do it where it happened than some other town. I plan on watching them," she told WBZ.

The production company has offered hotel rooms for residents who don't want to see the filming.
