One Arrested In Assault Of Revere Officer, Search Ongoing For 2nd Suspect

SAUGUS (CBS) -- Revere police have arrested one of the suspects in an assault on a a Revere officer last week and are currently searching for the other after a crash involving a stolen car.

Jacqueline Murphy, 32, of Revere, was arrested Monday morning on warrants after the stolen vehicle she was in, which police had attempted to stop earlier, crashed on the Lynn Fells Parkway.

Police are looking for a man who fled the scene of the crash, and said around 2:40 p.m. that a witness had spotted him in Saugus.

Massachusetts State Police said they believe that man to be the same who assaulted a Revere officer with a hypodermic needle and led police on a chase last week that resulted in an officer crashing into a pole in Chelsea. That officer was seriously injured, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Police believe Murphy was in the car with the suspect during the pursuit last Thursday. State Police said she was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital under police guard after the crash, and is now being held at the State Police Barracks in Danvers until she can be arraigned, likely on Tuesday morning.

A trooper located Murphy and the male suspect driving in a stolen 1989 Buick LeSabre around 8:40 a.m. Monday on Route 1 South in Saugus. The suspects refused to stop, and after a pursuit, crashed into another car on the Lynn Fells Parkway. State Police said the driver of the car that was hit declined medical attention.

The search for the second suspect is underway in the area of Route 1 and the Lynn Fells Parkway.
