Man Arrested After 'Violent Struggle' That Injured Three Lowell Officers
LOWELL (CBS) – Police arrested a man accused of attacking multiple officers who tried to arrest him for an unarmed robbery in Lowell.
Lowell Police responded to a report of two men fighting on Kirk Street Friday just after 11 a.m. and found that a suspect had allegedly taken the other man's wallet.
Two officers tried to arrest Gerald Paul Rodriguez, 20, but a "violent struggle" ensued before he ran from the area.
A third Lowell officer ran after Rodriguez, who police say threw his jacket containing the victim's wallet.
After the chase, police again attempted to arrest Rodriguez. According to Lowell Police, Rodriguez "violently resisted arrest" and ran once more.
One of the officers was brought to an area hospital by ambulance with a serious cut above his eye and a possible broken arm.
A second officer brought himself for treatment and a third declined medical attention.
Initially Lowell Police said they were asking for the public's help in locating Rodriguez. But just after 3 p.m. on Saturday police announced he had been arrested.
