Saudi Arabian Man Threatened To Blow Up Brockton Hospital, Prosecutors Say
BROCKTON (CBS) – A Saudi Arabian man pleaded not guilty to accusations that he threatened to blow up a Brockton hospital and assaulted workers during a weekend incident.
Saud Alonize, 21, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of assault and battery, threatening to commit a crime, disorderly conduct and assault on a health care provider.
Alonize pleaded not guilty and was held on $2,500 cash bail. Prosecutors had requested bail be set at $100,000.
Police say that around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Alonize told workers at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital that he would "strap a bomb to himself and come back to blow up the hospital."
Alonize, a college student who currently lives in Brockton, had come to the hospital with a facial injury he suffered during a fight with his roommate.
During a struggle with hospital workers, Alonize allegedly shot blood from the injury at one worker and bruised the wrist of another employee.
A defense attorney for Alonize said the 21-year-old was drunk and does not remember the incident.
Following his arraignment, Alonize was ordered to surrender his passport until his next court appearance on March 16.
