Mother With Infant Carjacked In Brockton

BROCKTON (CBS) - It started as a normal family trip to the mall for a young woman, her mother and her baby, until they tried to leave and a man was inside their car.

That woman tells WBZ, "He was already in the car, he got out, started to walk away apologizing and said 'you know what I am gonna take your car.'"

She thought he was kidding until he flashed a gun and demanded her keys and their purses.

But, it didn't take long before her car ended up in Stoughton wrapped around a pole. Police say that didn't stop the suspect.

He took off, but neighbors say his escape didn't last long.

Bonnie Bittner says she saw the whole thing and she tells us he "came running up the street but within seconds there was cruiser he was out of the car had gun out and told him put down your gun."

The man was quickly taken down. His gun, which was actually a pellet gun, was located.

But for the victim, she only cares about one thing.

"I have the baby and my mom, we are healthy and safe and that's all I care about," she said.

The suspect, 32-year-old Jose Robles of Taunton was arrested and charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery, among other charges and will face a judge Wednesday.
