MIT Student's 'Snow Day Calculator' Predicts School Cancellations

BOSTON (CBS) -- What if you knew ahead of time when school was most likely to be canceled?

MIT student David Sukhin's "Snow Day Calculator" continues to grow in popularity.

The website and app asks users to put in their zip code, details about their school and how many snow days the district has already had this winter.

Based on that information, the app uses an algorithm and the forecast to determine the likelihood of school getting called off.

The developer says he has been using a formula to figure out if he has to do his homework or not since middle school.

During a snowstorm, Sukhin says his website can receive up to 250,000 unique visits.
