The device was found Thursday at the Shell Gas Station on Hancock Street. Police are asking customers who have bought gas at this station to call their financial institutions if they notice any unauthorized transactions on their bank statements.

Investigators are also urging gas station owners to inspect their pumps for any tampering.

"These devices are located internally within the pump and attached to the electronic circuits," Quincy Police said on their Facebook page. "They are not battery operated and the information can be downloaded remotely."

Police say thieves don't have to return to retrieve the stolen information or the device.
