Bruins' Malcolm Subban Out At Least 8 Weeks With Fractured Larynx

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins announced Thursday that goaltender Malcolm Subban will be out "a minimum of eight weeks" after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured larynx, which he suffered on Saturday during the Providence Bruins' game against the Portland Pirates.

Subban sustained the injury when an errant puck struck him in the throat. The Bruins released the following statement on their website Thursday afternoon:

"Malcolm underwent successful surgery on February 8 at Mass Eye & Ear Hospital in Boston to repair his larynx fracture. He is doing well and has been released from the hospital. While there is no definitive timetable for his return at this time, he is expected to be out a minimum of eight weeks."

The injury will not have an effect on the Boston roster, but could limit the potential swaps that GM Don Sweeney could make ahead of the February 29 trade deadline. Subban would potentially be a valuable trade chip as a prospect and still could, but would add little to no value to a new team during the current season.
