Keller @ Large: Winners And Losers From New Hampshire Primary

BOSTON (CBS) - Congratulations to New Hampshire residents, who can get out of the house Wednesday without having to sidestep a small mountain of ghastly fliers, eat dinner now without being interrupted every five minutes by the phone, go to the mall this weekend without being accosted by Chris Christie.

Speaking of Christie, I guess Donald Trump was right when he laughed off the Union-Leader endorsement, although it wasn't a total loss for the region's newspaper editorial boards, with multiple endorsement winner John Kasich doing well.

And Kasich's showing gives New Hampshire hope that it's legend of rewarding retail campaigning won't be totally discredited by what Donald Trump accomplished through big rallies and media hype.

The pollsters had a pretty good night after blowing it in Iowa, with our WBZ/UMass Amherst crew pretty much nailing the Trump and Sanders margins.

However, it isn't great to be an elected official or labor union in New Hampshire that bet on the wrong horse, a category that includes Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. What Bernie Sanders did to Hillary Clinton Tuesday night shatters a lot of longstanding assumptions about how winning political coalitions are built.

Keep in mind, this wasn't the end of anything, except perhaps a few misconceived candidacies.

New Hampshire and Iowa are just the start of a long, winding road that now moves into places that couldn't be more different.

But then again, we're all Americans.

And surely even those among us who are doing well can start to understand that many more who aren't doing well are desperate for a better deal.
