Woman Unharmed After Bedford Carjacking

BEDFORD (CBS) – Police quickly arrested a carjacking suspect accuse of stealing a pickup truck from a Bedford gas station with a woman inside.

Just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, a man had stopped for gas at Northside Convenience on North Road. While the man was in the gas station, his wife remained in the pickup truck.

Police say the man watched as Michael Sullivan, 35, of Quincy allegedly got in the truck and drove away with the woman still inside.

An alert was issued to area police departments. A short time later Carlisle officers found the truck and arrested Sullivan without incident.

The woman was unharmed.

"We are very fortunate in Bedford to have one of the lowest rates of crime in the Commonwealth, but that only underscores the importance of training and preparation by all members of the Bedford Police Department, and that showed today," Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno said. "I am equally proud of the teamwork and partnerships established by our department with our neighboring communities."

Sullivan is charged with carjacking. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Concord District Court.
