Heavy Snow Pulls Down Trees, Power Lines In Several Mass. Towns
BOSTON (CBS) – Wet and heavy snow brought down tree limbs and power lines throughout Massachusetts during a Friday storm.
Many towns in Massachusetts were hit with at least 8 inches of snow, with Worcester and Southbridge among the locations to receive double digit totals.
In addition to troubles on the road throughout the region, towns also dealt with downed limbs and wires.
In Canton, a six-year-old girl died after a tree limb fell due to heavy snow.
Firefighters were called to Newton where a large tree became uprooted and fell onto a house on Grant Ave.
Though a branch went through one of the home's windows, no significant damage was reported.
Concord firefighters responded to at least seven calls for wires down, while limbs and wires were also an issue in Duxbury, West Roxbury, Wellesley and several other towns.
Wellesley Police posted a video showing branches coming down as a cruiser approaches an area where limbs have already fallen.
Eversource reported about 39,000 power outages scattered around the state as of 11:00 p.m.
National Grid reported about 49,000 outages.
Anyone who comes across downed wires is urged to call 911 rather than touching the lines as they could still be live.

A downed tree also caused delays on the MBTA Green Line.
MBTA officials said shuttle buses replaced Green Line D branch trains in both directions between Kenmore and Newton Highlands because a tree branch fell onto an overhead wire at Chestnut Hill.
Green Line E branch trains were also suspended between Brigham Circle and Heath Street because of a fallen tree at Brigham Circle.
Riders are asked to use the Route 39 bus between the two stops.
At Waban Station, the main walkway became blocked around 3 p.m. when a tree fell. Passengers should use the parking lot entrance.
