Some UNH Students Unlikely To Watch Democratic Debate Despite Campus Playing Host

DURHAM – Most 18 to 22-year-olds are highly entrenched in the politics of college life, but as far as watching the top two democrats debate on their campus? Not all students seem to care.

"Probably not" Andrew Breen, a University of New Hampshire student said when asked if he'd be watching at home.

Breen, like many on campus, had interest in attending the debate, but says on television, "it's just not the same".

Many students feel apathetic towards politics and voting. That's the challenge candidates face with attracting the all important young vote. Bernie Sanders and Hilary Clinton have students a priority in their speeches.

"I'm a big Bernie supporter, I agree with most of his views" UNH student Zach Holler said.

Holler grew up in New Hampshire and says he's used to the "hysteria" around the primary.

"It's exciting, everyone's really antsy for it, I'm excited," Holler said.

Clinton and Sanders have agreed to four more debates between now and May. They're hoping visits to campuses will encourage younger viewers to watch, and register.
