Lowell Police: Boy, 12, Pulls Knife On Teacher

LOWELL (CBS) -- A 12-year-old boy pulled a knife on a teacher at a Lowell alternative school, according to police.

The Lowell Police Department confirmed that the incident happened at the Cardinal O'Connell School on Carter Avenue Wednesday, after other students had left for early dismissal. The student fled after pulling the knife.

The boy, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, was arrested near the school shortly after noon and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. Lowell Police said there was no struggle between the boy and teacher, and nobody was injured.

He was taken to Lowell Juvenile Court.

According to the school's website, the Cardinal O'Connell School features the David J. McHugh program, described as "a short-term behavioral and academic intervention program servicing Lowell Public School children in grades 5 through 8 who struggle with challenging behaviors, which interrupt academic success."
