Daily Talker: Dress Code Battle

Some high school students in California are getting national attention for their fight over their school's dress code. That dress code was set in 1975.

It states that "male haircuts may not fall below the mid-point of a standard stand up shirt collar and earlobes must be visible." It also states that earrings are "not appropriate or acceptable" for male students. Changes were proposed last year after one student wrote an open letter detailing how he was stopped from enrolling for his senior year because of his long hair. The school board recently voted against any changes. In protest, boys went to school dressed as girls. And vice versa. The ACLU is weighing in saying the school's dress code violates California law protecting gender expression. No word yet what steps they will take next.

What do you think? Should the school dress code be updated? Should students follow the rules that are set?
