New Government Center MBTA Station To Open March 26

BOSTON (CBS) -- Closed in 2014 for a multi-million dollar project, the Government Center MBTA station is set to reopen on Saturday, March 26.

MBTA General Manager Frank DePaola said crews have worked hard to keep the pledge to reopen the station in two years--a feat they were only able to accomplish by closing the entire station, rather than parts of it.

"We were able to work around any issues because we had the whole station available," said DePaola.

Unlike the old Government Center station, this one will be fully accessible to people with disabilities.

"The station will now have elevators from ground level down to both the Green Line and the Blue Line levels," said DePaola.

The new station will also feature a lot more glass--allowing natural light to get down to the lower levels of the station.
