Daily Talker: Emerson Student Posts Dorm On Airbnb

An Emerson College student says he's facing disciplinary action after renting out his dorm room on Airbnb. Jack Worth told the Globe he rented the room in early January to three guests on three separate nights. No word how much he charged. The listing was posted online for two weeks before school officials told him to take it down.

The 19-year-old sophomore says the school's punishment could tarnish his time at the college. Emerson officials would not confirm the student rented out his dorm room. They did say an attempt to sublet a dorm room would violate the school's housing policies.

There is now a petition on change.org titled "Free Jack Worth." It already has more than 370 signatures. The post says Worth "saw an opportunity to help travelers be able to afford to stay in the downtown Boston area, and earn himself some money to help offset the expense of attending college… The charges will be formally brought in an upcoming student conduct hearing. By signing this petition you are supporting Jack and his honest, entrepreneurial endeavor."

What do you think? Did this student do something wrong? Should he be punished? If yes, what should his punishment be?
