ROXBURY (CBS) -- A three-year-old boy who was taken to the hospital Sunday night with life-threatening injuries has died.

Boston Police responded to a home on Alpine Street in Roxbury around 9:40 p.m. and found Kenai Whyte unresponsive.

He was rushed by ambulance to Boston Medical Center, where he remained.

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) had an open case with the family living in the home. A social worker last checked in on the family just days before the incident, an agency spokesperson said.

DCF has taken custody of another child in the home. The agency said it is conducting its own internal investigation.
