Man Wanted In Virginia Killing Dies After Shooting Self In Fitchburg

FITCHBURG (AP) — Authorities say a man who shot himself as police closed in on him in connection with a killing in Virginia has died.

A spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said 43-year-old Dana William died Friday. William was taken to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday after shooting himself as police entered a Fitchburg apartment where he was staying.

William was wanted in connection with the strangulation death earlier this month of 68-year-old Woodell Brooks in Amelia County Virginia, and the disappearance of his wife, 68-year-old Olene Brooks. She remains missing.

Authorities said William is the couple's former son-in-law and was recently released from prison.

Early said William is originally from Fitchburg, a city of about 40,000 located 50 miles west of Boston.
