Felger & Mazz Are Pretty Worried About Hanley Ramirez At First Base

BOSTON (CBS) -- If you thought Hanley Ramirez in left field was an adventure, just wait for what the 2016 Red Sox have in store for you.

The Red Sox have improved their club this offseason with the signing of ace David Price and the acquisitions of closer Craig Kimbrel and setup man Carson Smith, but there is still one big question mark that could derail everything: Hanley Ramirez at first base.

While the most important story heading into the new season is Boston's rotation after Price, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger & Mazz are very concerned about Ramirez and his defense at such an important position on the field.

Ramirez was disastrous in left field last season, so Boston is hoping a move back into the infield will turn things around. He recently said first base is "my house" and that he likes being back in the infield (different from an interview last season when he said he wouldn't go back to the infield), but Felger is far from convinced.

"He says all the right things, but he's such a B.S. artist," said Felger. "I just think Hanley is smart enough to say the right things, but he doesn't give a crap. That's a disaster waiting to happen."

Mazz couldn't help but laugh at the thought of ground balls to third base, when Pablo Sandoval will be throwing over to Hanley at first.

"It is going to be a complete carnival with those two," said Mazz. "If there is an opportunity, get rid of [Ramirez]. They'll be better off defensively, and more importantly, better off attitude-wise without him. The only thing he cares about his his at-bats, and even then it's a 50-50 proposition. The defense, he's not interested.

"The biggest mistake they've made is not getting rid of this guy yet," said Mazz.

Felger said he never felt that Manny Ramirez's attitude rubbed off on other guys on the team, but he's worried about having Hanley around young players like Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts. Check out their full Red Sox discussion in the video above.
