Wayland Pizza Shop Owner Accused Of Trying To Recruit Teen For Prostitution

BOSTON (CBS) - The owner of a popular pizza shop in Wayland is facing charges for allegedly trying to convince a 19-year-old girl to have sex for money.

Michael Giakoumakis, 65, of Framingham, is free on $500 cash bail after being arraigned in District Court Tuesday.

A police report in the case claims four detectives heard Giakoumakis proposition the young woman over an audio listening device. The victim told police she's known Giakoumakis since she was a small child and that he is a friend of her father's.

Giakoumakis also employed the victim at his restaurant, Liberty Pizza, while she was in high school. The police report describes the shop as "a fixture within the Town of Wayland." In fact, when the victim first contacted police about her conversations with Giakoumakis, Wayland officers requested Lincoln Police take the case because many of its employees eat at the restaurant and are friends with the owners.

The court records state police listened to phone calls from Giakoumakis over the victim's speakerphone in which he asked what kind of alcohol she liked to drink and if she would meet to discuss a job opportunity. The pair met at another restaurant Monday where detectives outfitted her with the listening device.

During this meeting, detectives write Giakoumakis told the victim she would be having sex with married men who "want a 'vacation' from their family for a few hours," and that she could make good money, $50.00 to $75.00 per hour. The report also states Giakoumakis spoke of two women he knows who paid their way through college by having sex with these men. Finally, investigators say, he asked the victim if she had any friends who would also like to do this type of work.

Liberty Pizza declined comment to WBZ-TV about the charges. Giakoumakis was ordered to surrender his passport while on bail. His next court date is March 10th.
