Fishermen Rescued After Falling Through Thin Ice In Andover

ANDOVER (AP) — Three ice fishermen from Lowell were rescued over the weekend after falling into the frigid waters of a pond in Harold Parker State Forest in Andover.

The men, whose names weren't made public, fell through thin ice into Field Pond at around 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

Deputy Fire Chief Albert Deldotto says the men fell through thin ice after walking several hundred feet from their fishing hut.

Firefighters in cold water rescue gear pulled two of the men about 150 yards from shore. The third victim was able to free himself.

Deldotto estimates the water temperature was in the high 30s. He says the incident was definitely life-threatening.

The victims were treated for hypothermia at Lawrence General Hospital and Holy Family Hospital.
