Maine Police Department Pens Letter Of Blizzard Advice For Mid-Atlantic States

BANGOR, Maine (CBS) – For a change it appears that New England will be spared Mother Nature's fury while the rest of the mid-Atlantic region is set to be hammered with over a foot of snow.

Veterans of lengthy winters past, the Bangor Police Department in Maine penned a Facebook letter called "Dear Mid-Atlantic of these United States of America" to help less seasoned states prepare for the incoming blizzard.

"Listen, this storm is going to miss us," the note reads. "This is not typical and we want to share a little advice of how to make it through an epic 'snow event' unscathed."

The letter includes several pieces advice, starting with "Don't panic. It's just frozen rain."

Some of the advice is lighthearted, like not buying all the bread off the grocery store shelves.

Other tips are more serious, such as helping older neighbors shovel, charging cell phones and filling up on gas.

The department's Facebook post has been shared more than 27,000 times since it was published Thursday night.

"You will be fine. We drink lots of coffee and complain when we get hit like this storm. It works ok," police told mid-Atlantic residents. "It makes us grouchy but that's why you come here in the summer. To hear stories from grumpy Mainers who sell lobster traps. Now, you will have some of your own to share with us when you get back."
