Daily Talker: Teachers Call Out Sick In Protest

Nearly 45,000 students had to miss school Wednesday after hundreds of Detroit teachers called out sick. Instead of going to school, the teachers were protesting outside the Detroit Auto Show where President Obama was a guest. The teachers say they are doing this for the students. They're trying to bring attention to what they call "deplorable conditions" at their schools. Everything from damaged floors, ceilings and roofs to mice and even mold and mushrooms growing inside classrooms. Some of those classrooms are so cold the students need to wear their coats. The district is $515 million in the red. Schools are now run by a state appointed emergency manager. In an interview with CBS News last week, Darnell Early said sick-outs aren't the right approach. And some parents agree. They say their kids need to be in school.

What do you think of the teacher sick-outs? Is this the right way to bring attention to the problems? What would be the best strategy?
