Police Search For Owner Of Boat Dumped On Route 6

WAREHAM (CBS) -- The Wareham Harbormaster Department and Mattapoisett Police would like to find the owner of a boat that was illegally left on the side of Route 6.

The Wareham Harbormaster Department said on their Facebook page they saw the boat being towed from Wareham in the direction of Marion on Route 6 Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. Later in the evening, Mattapoisett Police found that same boat dumped on the side of the road.

That's when the Wareham Harbormaster Department posted a description on Facebook of the vehiclethey had seen towing the boat. They are on the lookout for a maroon or dark-colored older-model Mercury Grand Marquis or Ford Crown Victoria with square headlights, leather roof trim, and a trailer hitch.

In the post, Wareham Harbormaster Department said they "would very much like to help Mattapoisett police bring charges against these disrespectful litterbugs!"

An update was posted Thursday morning, saying that one of Wareham Harbormaster Department's followers contacted them to say they had found the boat on Craigslist, helping the department find out where the boat came from--though they are still trying to determine who dumped it.

Anyone with information about the boat's owners is asked to contact Mattapoisett Police, Wareham Police, or the Wareham Harbormaster Department.
