Patriots' Jerod Mayo Placed On Injured Reserve

BOSTON (CBS) -- Stopping the run will be of critical importance for the Patriots this Sunday in Denver, but they're going to be without a key linebacker.

Jerod Mayo was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday, the Patriots announced.

Mayo left Saturday's divisional round win over the Chiefs after suffering a shoulder injury, and he did not return.

The eight-year veteran spent the first half of the season working his way back from patellar tendon surgery, which he underwent last fall. In the second half of the season, Mayo recorded 39 tackles and one sack in eight games, including five tackles in the Patriots' Week 12 game in Denver.

Mayo was not the only injury question mark for the Patriots coming out of Saturday, as both Jamie Collins and Chandler Jones also suffered injuries. So far, there have been no updates on either player's status, though their injuries were believed to be minor.
