Keller @ Large: What Is Wrong With Marian Ryan?

BOSTON (CBS) - What is wrong with Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan?

It wasn't enough to make a fool of herself shortly after the surviving Marathon bomber got the death sentence by insisting she wanted to bring the killer back from federal prison to face another trial for the murder of Sean Collier, the MIT police officer.

Her comment at the time: "When you come into Middlesex County and execute a police officer in the performance of his duties … it is appropriate that you should come back to Middlesex County to stand trial for that offense," as if this were an episode of Gunsmoke and she was Marshal Matt Dillon.

At the time, saner heads noted that the mass murderer was locked up in America's toughest prison for life, or until his execution if his death penalty appeals fail, and that no purpose would be served by awarding him the busman's holiday of another trip to Massachusetts save for forcing his many surviving victims to relive the horror.

But now, Marshal Ryan is back on the case, saying in a statement that "this is a long and complicated process" and she will "continue to assess the necessity of pursuing our state charges."

Actually, no need for that.

There is no such necessity.

And there's nothing complicated about the facts that another DA with jurisdiction to try the killer again, Suffolk DA Dan Conley, has reviewed and chosen not to.

Earth to DA Ryan, we are all done with this vicious trash.

Be part of the solution, not the problem, and be done with him as well.
