Police: Woman Fabricated Attack, Robbery In Chelsea

CHELSEA (CBS) – Police say a woman who claimed three men attacked and robbed her in Chelsea this weekend made the story up.

Police say they will charge 25-year-old Denissa Perez with misleading a police officer.

Perez told police she was jumped while walking home from work near the Lynn Street Extension between Central Ave and Maverick Street on Saturday. She says she was kicked and slashed with a knife.

Police say they found several inconsistencies with her version of the incident.

Officers say there was no attack, and the woman was injured when she tried to break up a fight at an undisclosed address between several men. She received a cut on her hand from a broken bottle requiring several stitches.

Perez was treated for serious injuries and cuts at Whidden Hospital in Everett.

Police say the reported attack spread "significant fear throughout the city" and wasted police resources.

She will appear in Chelsea District Court later this month.
