DCR Removing Trees Along Memorial Drive In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation workers began removing hazardous trees along Memorial Drive paths Wednesday.

The work, part of a larger plan for the rehabilitation and restoration of 1.5 miles along Memorial Drive between the BU Boathouse and the Longfellow Bridge, will continue until Friday, January 29.

Crews will be removing the trees along paths between Vassar Street and the Longfellow Bridge weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Path detours are not expected.

The DCR said in a press release that the goal of the larger project is "to reestablish the parkland atmosphere for pedestrians and motorists to enjoy, honoring the intent of the original Olmstead design, and to provide safety upgrades in accordance with current standards."
