Veteran Boston Police Officer Shot In Dorchester Identified
BOSTON (CBS) – A Boston Police officer who was shot in the leg on Friday has been identified as he continues to recover from his injuries.
Boston Police said on Saturday that the officer who was shot on Mount Bowdoin Terrace in Dorchester was Officer Kurt Stokinger, a 9-year veteran of the force.
"I am happy to report that Kurt continues to recover from his injuries," Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said. "All indications are positive and we can continue to pray for him."
He remains at Boston Medical Center but is in stable condition.

The officer was allegedly shot by convicted drug dealer Grant Headley during a traffic stop on Mount Bowdoin Terrace in Dorchester Friday morning.
According to Evans, Headley got out of his car and started shooting "unprovoked," leading to an exchange of gunfire with officers.
After being shot in the leg by a Glock .40 mm handgun, Stokinger applied a tourniquet to his wound and was transported to Boston Medical Center.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Evans said the officer is a highly decorated veteran of the department, assigned to the Mattapan Drug Control Unit.
In addition, police said that Stokinger is the father of a 7-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter.
Family told WBZ-TV's Chantee Lans they have been visiting Stokinger all day Saturday.
Neighbor Jane Nakashian says she has known Stokinger for most of his life.
"I couldn't speak," she told WBZ-TV after learning Stokinger had been shot. "I was shocked. It brings it home."
Stokinger's family says he comes from a family of firefighters, including his father, grandfather and uncle.
Nakashain said she is happy to know Stokinger will be able to recover from his injuries.
