Real Life 'Lassie' Guides Officer To Dog In Need Of Rescue

ORANGE (CBS) -- It's a story line you'll likely see on the classic show starring "Lassie." One dog's cue to rescuers helped save another dog that got stuck after slipping down an icy embankment.

The owner of both dogs suffered a medical condition and had to be taken to the hospital. When emergency crews arrived, her two dogs ran out and down the road.

Officers couldn't catch the dogs so they called North Quabbin Animal Control.

A few hours later, one of the dogs ran up to an officer and began barking. Police say the dog was barking to signal the officer to follow him through a field to an embankment.

The officer spotted the second dog that had apparently slid down about 30 feet and was wedged in some overgrowth.

Firefighters responded to the area and carried the dog to safety. Both dogs were taken to the veterinarian to be checked.

"Apparently, any dog in the right circumstance can turn into 'Lassie,' police posted on Facebook.
