Boston Mayor Marty Walsh Roasts Montreal Mayor In Video For Friendly Winter Classic Wager

BOSTON (CBS) -- So much for a "friendly" wager between mayors.

Boston mayor Marty Walsh and Montreal mayor Denis Coderre have a bit of a history, as the two engaged in some friendly wagering back in the 2014 playoffs when the Bruins and Canadiens met in the second round of the postseason. After the Bruins lost, Walsh was forced to fly a Canadiens flag outside of City Hall, a loss that no doubt burns him to this day.

Well, with the Bruins and Canadiens set to face off on New Year's Day in the Winter Classic, the mayors are back at it. The mayor of the losing city's team will have to say 10 nice things about the other's city, and he'll have to do so on camera.

The two mayors sat down with the Epix camera crews to offer suggestions to their counterparts, and it was then that Walsh was able to offer a biting suggesting that just might sting when heard up in Montreal.

"Certainly, Mayor, one of the places I would suggest that you go to is the TD Garden," Walsh said. "I want you to look up to the rafters. And when you look up there, there's gonna be something that Montreal hasn't seen in a long time, and that's a Stanley Cup banner. And I want to thank the people of Montreal for allowing us to host the Stanley Cup in 2011."

The gloves, as they say, are officially off.

Walsh, of course, was referencing the Bruins' 2011 Stanley Cup victory, which came after the Bruins defeated the Canadiens in seven games in the first round of the playoffs that year. And though the Canadiens own 24 Stanley Cup victories, they haven't won it all since 1993.

The Bruins and Canadiens will face off at 1 p.m. on New Year's Day at Gillette Stadium.
