Everett Police Officer Remembered For Commitment To Education

EVERETT (CBS) -- "He was a great man who loved his job. I'm still shocked and I can't explain it," wife Jeannine Briley said.

On Dec. 9th, Officer Glenn Briley, 44, just finished his overnight shift and was about to go home when he died of a heart attack inside his police cruiser. He was found in the back parking lot of the police station.

"It was awful, ton of bricks thrown at you, the worst day of my life," Glen's sister Michele Strong said.

Officer Briley grew up in Everett and was a 20-year veteran on the police force. He's also the father of two children ages 14 & 16 years old. To his fellow officers and Everett residents he was known as Mr. Briley. During his funeral, thousands lined the streets to pay their respects.

"He was well respected not only within the department but within the community and people he interacted with," Everett Police Chief Steven Mazzie said.

In memory of Officer Briley friends and family have started the Briley Children's Education Fund in his memory and for his children education.

"Glen graduated with his masters degree and he was big on education and he would always say the key to success is education," Strong said.
