Slater On Sports Final: You Don't Question Belichick's Decisions

BOSTON (CBS) -- As the Patriots and Jets were heading into overtime on Sunday, New England did exactly what they wanted to do after winning the coin toss: Kick off to the Jets.

While special teams captain Matthew Slater may have appeared a bit confused at midfield Sunday afternoon, the only confusion was the Patriots not being able to select which side of the field to kick to. Bill Belichick had already told head official Clete Blakeman that he wanted to kick if the Patriots won the toss, a decision that was met by a lot of scrutiny in the hours following New England's 26-20 loss at the Meadowlands.

But Slater said Belichick's players will never doubt their head coach or the decisions he makes.

"When coach makes a decision -- I've played for coach for a long time now -- you don't question that decision," Slater told Levan Reid on Sunday night's edition of Sports Final on WBZ-TV. "You know he's doing what is best for the team and what is going to give us the best chance to win. We'll never question a decision he makes. Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean it was the wrong decision.

"At the end of the day we did what we wanted to do. We won the toss and elected to kick off; that's what coach wanted to do. It just didn't work out for us," he said.

Slater also spoke about New England's resilience as they battle through a rash of injuries, and next week's game against the Dolphins in Miami. See the full interview in the video above, and tune in to Sports Final every Sunday night on WBZ-TV at 11:35pm!
